SWANSON WINS SECOND USAC WESTERN SPRINT RACE AT AA

08/04/2009

- Tanner Swanson (#75) of Kingsburg, Calif. scored his second victory of the 2009 USAC Western Sprint car campaign at The All American Speedway Saturday night, August 1rst, leading all but six laps to win the 50-lap Feature in his TK Motorsports machine.

Whenever you mention Tanner Swanson and starting from the pole in the same sentence, it means trouble for the rest of the field. That’s the way this one started but with a twist. Swanson led the first lap, then in a move that brought the home town crowd to their feet, Shauna Hogg got by Swanson for the lead! She would lead the next six until Lap 8 when Swanson got back around her. That pass would be the “Move of the Race” as Swanson would go on to lead every lap for the win! “I’ve really got to thank my Team for giving me such a great car tonight! It was awesome! I love this place (AAS)!” he said after the race in Pepsi Winner’s Circle.

JoJo Helberg (#7) was second at the checkered flag. He was solid throughout the race but in reality, he had the second best car on the night.

Shauna Hogg turned in one of her best performance yet at AAS. She ran a great race and brought home a third place finish. Mike Murgoitio came home fourth and fast qualifier Tony Hunt rounded out the top five.

In the Point’s Chase, Swanson’s lead now stands at 33 points over Helberg going into the August 15th race at Madera, Calif.

Shauna Hogg finishes 3rd at Roseville!

08/03/2009

This was to be the first event with new crew chief Louie Gennuso so the team was excited and hopeful that they would have a good day. The first practice session went well, however the car showed very similar characteristics as it has in the past. Louie and Shauna talked through the characteristics and Louie went to work. The second practice session went great; the car handled entirely different and improved their times by half of a second. When Shauna got out of the car, you could tell by the expression on her face she was excited. It was then time to qualify; Shauna had typically not been a good qualifier but knew that the car was capable of a good time. Tony Hunt clocked in the fastest time with a 12.943, when it was Shauna’s turn on the clock the car felt great so she pushed it as much as she could and clocked in the 5th fastest time with a 12.998.

Even though the car was handling great, Louie wanted make a few changes for the heat race to see if they could get more out of it. Shauna started in the outside second row position, at the drop of the green the two cars in the front row shuffled around a bit and Shauna was put into a position to see if her car would “stick” in the outside grove. It was clear Louie did more of his magic as she was able to drive her car anywhere on the track and run down the leaders. After the heat race Shauna was extremely happy with the car, “it went wherever I wanted to go, it was fast and a lot of fun to drive” said Shauna. Louie and Shauna talked about what changes needed to be made for the main event.

It was main event time and Shauna was to start on the front row. Tanner Swanson was to start on the inside of Shauna, Tanner is one of the young guns who could easily just drive away from the pack. Shauna knew her best opportunity was to be aggressive on the start. While coming around for the green flag Shauna did her best to get a “jump” on the start, Tanner wasn’t going to make it that easy for her so they drove side by side into turn one. Shauna’s car was as strong as it’s ever been and they drove side by side for the first lap, and she ultimately was able to take the lead. She then led the next five laps until Tanner was able to make the pass. Shauna was able to maintain second until about 15 laps to go, while trying to pass a lapped car Jojo Helberg was able to get by. Shauna went on to finish third. After the race, Shauna could hardly believe how quickly Louie was able to improve their program. The entire team, family and friends felt as if it was a victory. Shauna stated after the race, “there is defiantly room for improvement but I couldn’t be happier”. “Louie is a great leader and he instills confidence, I feel this is just a start to some great things.” Shauna moved to sixth place in the point standings, the next USAC Western Sprint Car race is August 15, in Madera, CA.

Time for a change…

07/30/2009

After experiencing a very frustrating start to the 2009 season, and what seemed to be a continuation of last year’s dissatisfying season; Shauna met with her team and discussed their options. The team knows their struggles and poor results were not from a lack of effort, but there was clearly something wrong. Shauna then reached out to solicit the help of a well known crew chief Louie Gennuso, luckily for Shauna Louie was available to help. Louie has a very impressive resume, which includes 2007 Western States championship and two wins and a third place in the point standings in 2008.

Louie started out by spending a day to go over the car from bumper to bumper. There were several small changes that were made to the car. The team’s first even together will be August 1, at All American Speedway in Roseville, CA.

Nothing but Rain in Stockton!

05/02/2009

Shauna was excited to go back to the recently reopened Stockton Speedway. The track had been shut down for several years and the last time Shauna had run there she finished 2nd place. Unfortunately Mother Nature was not cooperative, after a few hours of watching the rain cover the track and pit area, the promoter cancelled the event due to current and forecasted weather conditions. The race is tentatively rescheduled for June 20th. Next race will be back in Roseville Speedway on May 30th. For race details visit www.allamericanspeedway.com
